Privacy Policy
Effective September 25, 2026 · Updated to describe progress backup for Google-linked accounts
Bible Recall ("the app") is made by Joshua Vickers, doing business as Bible Recall, in Douglas, Georgia, USA ("we"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed. If anything is unclear, email biblerecallapp@gmail.com.
The short version
- You can use the app without creating an account or telling us who you are. You get an anonymous ID.
- If you choose to, you can attach a Google account so your progress survives a new phone. From Google we receive only your email address.
- Your memorization progress, streaks and favorites live on your phone. If you link a Google account, they are also backed up to our servers so you can restore them later. Scores you submit to the daily scoreboard, a username you pick, and prayers you choose to share are stored on our servers. Your private prayer journal never leaves your phone.
- We do not sell your information, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
- You can delete your account and everything tied to it from inside the app, at any time.
What we collect
Information you provide
- Username, friend code and public profile. If you take part in friends, groups, leaderboards or churches, you choose a username. Optionally you may add a short bio and choose to show which verses you are memorizing. These are visible to other users as described below.
- Google account email. Optional. If you link a Google account, we receive and store the email address so you can sign in again later. We do not receive your Google password, contacts or other Google data.
- Prayers and messages. Shared prayers are built from fixed templates you choose from, not free text, and are shown only to the friends and groups you pick. Responses to a prayer may include a short message, visible only to the prayer's author. Your private prayer journal is stored only on your phone and is never sent to us.
- Church and group membership. Joining a church or group with a code records that membership so the church or group can share content with you.
- Reports and support requests. If you report content or contact us, we keep what you send so we can act on it.
Information created as you use the app
- An anonymous account identifier created by Firebase Authentication when you first open the app. It contains no personal details.
- Scores you submit to the daily challenge and Blitz scoreboards, with your username, so they can appear on the boards.
- Purchase information. If you buy Premium, Google Play handles the payment. We and our billing provider, RevenueCat, receive a purchase record (product, dates, status and an anonymised purchase token) so we can unlock Premium and restore it later. We never see your card number.
- Crash reports and usage analytics through Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase: device model, operating system version, app version, a crash trace when the app fails, and a small number of product events such as "daily challenge completed" or "premium sheet shown". These are tied to your anonymous identifier, not to your name or email.
- Device integrity checks through Firebase App Check and Google Play Integrity, which confirm requests come from the genuine app. No personal data is involved.
Your progress, and progress backup
Your memorization progress, mastery levels, favorites, notes, streaks, game scores, achievements and settings are stored in the app's local storage on your device.
If you link a Google account, the app also keeps a backup copy of that progress on our servers (Google Firebase), tied to your account, so that a reinstall or a new phone can restore it. The backup updates when you leave the app. Only you can read it. It contains no contacts, location or messages, and it is deleted when you delete your account. If you never link a Google account, nothing on this list leaves your phone.
Your private prayer journal is never backed up. It stays only on your phone, whether or not you link an account.
How we use it
- To run the app's features: scoreboards, friends and groups, shared prayers, church content, and Premium.
- To keep the app working: crash reports tell us what broke; analytics tell us which features matter.
- To keep the community safe: acting on reports, and honouring blocks.
- To answer you when you write to us.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for marketing.
Who can see what
| Information | Visible to |
|---|---|
| Username and daily score | Anyone on the scoreboards; your friends and group members |
| Bio and "memorizing" list | Signed-in users who open your profile, and only what you chose to publish |
| Shared prayers | Only the friends and groups you selected when sharing |
| Prayer response messages | Only the author of that prayer |
| Church membership and username | Your church's admins and fellow members |
| Google email | Only you and us. Never shown to other users |
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers, each bound to use data only to provide their service to us:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics, Analytics, App Check, Hosting), which stores our data in the United States.
- Google Play, which processes purchases under Google's own privacy policy.
- RevenueCat, which validates purchases and manages Premium entitlements.
We do not sell personal information. We disclose information only when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.
Children
Bible Recall is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, email us and we will delete it. Churches and youth leaders using the app with minors should obtain any consent their local law requires.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you delete your account. Scoreboard rows are kept so that historical boards remain accurate, and are removed when the account that submitted them is deleted. Crash and analytics data are retained by Firebase for up to 90 days for crashes and up to 14 months for analytics. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for your entitlement and for tax and accounting law.
Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your profile, username, friend code, friendships, group and church memberships, shared prayers and responses, scoreboard rows, your progress backup, and the sign-in account itself, and then clears the app's data on your phone. The whole thing takes a few seconds and cannot be undone.
If you no longer have the app installed, email biblerecallapp@gmail.com from the Google account you linked, or include your Support ID if you remember it, and we will delete the account within 30 days. Purchases made through Google Play remain on your Google account under Google's terms.
Your choices
- Use the app without ever picking a username or linking Google. Scoreboards, friends and churches need a username; everything else does not.
- Unlink your Google account at any time in Settings.
- Choose exactly who sees each shared prayer, and delete or mark it answered later.
- Block any user; they vanish from your feeds and lists and are not told.
- Turn reminders off in Settings.
- Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you by email.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted. Our database is protected by access rules that let you read and write only your own data and what others have chosen to share with you; those rules are tested automatically before every release. Nobody at Bible Recall can grant themselves Premium or read your private journal, because neither exists on our servers.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
